Peachtree City, GA (5/11/2023) – Monovet® 90 (monensin Type A medicated article) has received approval from the FDA for combination use with Pennchlor® (chlortetracycline Type A medicated article) in beef calves 2 months of age or older, as well as heifers and steers being fed in confinement for slaughter. Using feeds that contain a combination of monensin and chlortetracycline is restricted to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
“We know that beef cattle producers need as many choices as possible to ensure the health and safety of cattle. The opportunity to use the products in combination means producers can manage the health of the animal without the stress of pulling cattle out of the pen,” said Dr. Jay Johnson, Technical Service Ruminant Nutritionist for Huvepharma. “Less stress can lead to a better gain response in the animal.”
Being able to use both Monovet® 90 and Pennchlor® in Type B and C medicated feeds expands the number of choices available to cattle producers regarding herd health. Prior to this approval, producers had one possible source of monensin if feeding this combination. In recognizing the needs of the industry, working with regulatory authorities, and developing strong customer partnerships, Huvepharma® will continue to bring quality choices and essential animal health solutions to the market.
“We are thrilled to announce the approval of this combination clearance which is a testament to our unwavering dedication to the cattle industry,” says Daniel Lackey, Director of Product Management & Marketing for Huvepharma. “Our focus remains on providing cattle producers with a range of products, services, and solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
