VETGUN™

Product Information

VetGun is the easy-to-use, precision-dosage delivery system for controlling horn flies on cattle, now with two insecticide options – two different modes-of-action – for optimum horn fly management.

VetGun projects insecticide-filled capsules – called VetCaps – safely from 15-30 feet away. VetCaps fragment on contact and go to work without the stress  of herding or handling cattle.

So easy! One person working alone can treat 100 cattle in just one hour – delivering effective control where and when you need it.

Benefits

AiM-L and AiM-A VetCaps can be used to deliver a “one-two punch” for in-season horn fly control – working to combat horn flies.

  • In-season rotation with AiM-L™ and AiM-A Abamectin™
  • Effective horn fly management
  • Easy and safe to use
  • Less stress on cattle and you.

The AiM-L and AiM-A VetCaps are specifically engineered to withstand transportation and handling, yet burst upon contact with the animal. Used properly, VetCaps deliver a consistent and accurate dose of insecticide to each animal.

The effectiveness of AiM-A against horn flies is proven. In an independent field trial, AiM-A VetCaps were applied to test cattle with significant horn fly burdens. AiM-A provided control of horn flies, remaining 95% effective through four weeks.1

Indication

AiM-L VetCap 10 mL capsules contain lambda-cyhalothrin (a pyrethroid), an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insecticide proven effective for control of horn flies, face flies, biting lice and sucking lice on beef cattle weighing over 600 lbs.

AiM-A VetCap 10 mL capsules contain abamectin (a macrocyclic lactone in the avermectin family), an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insecticide for effective treatment of horn flies on beef cattle and non-lactating dairy cattle weighing over 600 lbs.

AIM-L STOPS LICE, TOO.

As cooler winter months approach, lice become an increasingly prevalent parasite. Left unchecked, lice infestations can cause significant damage to both your herd and your property. AiM-L VetCaps can be used to control biting and sucking lice on beef cattle greater than 600lbs. Optimal lice control in winter may require two treatments. The first dose of AiM-L will kill the adult lice and a second dose two weeks later will clean up any nymphs from newly hatched eggs (nits).

Storage & Handling

Please note storage and handling requirements for VetCaps as they are sensitive to prolonged cold temperatures and humidity. Store VetCaps in conditions where relative humidity is kept between 30% and 50% and temperatures are maintained between 50° F-80°F.

Dosage & Administration

1 VetCap (10mL) for cattle over 600 pounds. Apply one VetCap per animal.

Use AiM-L and AiM-A VetCaps exclusively with a VetGun and in accordance with use directions and treatment method recommendations.

Apply when animal is between 15 and 30 feet distance from the user.

Do not apply treatment when bystanders are within 30 feet of the animal.

Do not apply to any animals in or within 10 feet of bodies of water. AIM VetCaps are designed for use only with the VetGun that carries the VetCap registered label. Using any other application device or method could be unsafe, ineffective and/or cause harm or injury.

Apply a VetCap to the upper two-thirds side of the animal's body, anywhere between the front shoulders and six inches ahead of the base of the tail. Apply one VetCap per animal.

Treatment for horn flies with AiM-L can be repeated as needed, but not more than once every two weeks and do not apply more often than four times within any six-month period.

For optimal lice control, an initial application of AiM-L followed by a second treatment two weeks later is recommended. It is recommended that AiM-A be applied once in the season.

Producers should plan VetCap applications to horn fly populations causing economic damage--generally when numbers approach 200 per animal. By minimizing the time horn flies are exposed to each insecticide, and by rotating chemical classes, horn flies have less time to develop their defenses.

How to Use

GET A ONE-TWO PUNCH ON HORN FLIES.

The following is a sample rotation schedule of how AiM-L and AiM-A VetCaps could be used for control of horn flies if the first treatment of the season is with ivermectin.

Step 1: Treat with AiM-L when flies start to appear

Step 2:  Treat with AiM-A when flies approach approximately 200/animal

Step 3:  Treat with AiM-L four weeks after AiM-A treatment

Step 4:   Treat with AiM-A when flies approach approximately 200/animal

During winter and early spring, treat with 2x AiM-L two weeks apart to control lice.
